The People of the State of Illinois,

To the Sheriff of Sangamon County - Greeting:

We command you to summon Richard Yates Coroner of the State of Illinois if to be found in your County, to appear before the Circuit Court of Cook County, on the first day of the next Term thereof, to be holden at the Court House, in the City of Chicago on the First Monday in the Month of January next, to answer unto George Steel filed in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County against the [Stent of Ills?] the city of Chicago Board of Trustees of the Illinois & Michigan Canal, James B. [Cassephich?], William H. Wood, James Couch, Caroline E. Couch widow of Ira Couch deceased, Ira Couch, Caroline E. Couch, daughter of Ira Couch deceased) and hereof make due return to our said Court as the law directs.

Witness, William L. Church, Clerk of said Court, and the Judicial Seal thereof, at Chicago this fourteenth day of December, A.D. 1864.
