His Excellency Gov Yates of Illinois.

               Dr Sir
                       The bearer Mr Horace N Peckham desires to go to Memphis Tennessee for the purpose of assisting home a sick soldier (his brother in law) belonging to the  46th Ills Regt now in Hospital at that place.
                We take pleasure in vouching for his active and earnest Loyalty and. Trust you will afford him any assistance in your power in procuring a pass for that purpose
