To his Excellency

Gov Yates

Dear sir

I take the privilege of writing you a few lines for your influence in behalf of my brother Peter Baker who has been in the service since Aug. 1862 who has never had a Furlough nor has not been home by any means and has been sick and afflicted with sore eyes, has not done a duty of any kind for fifteen months. I would like for you to advise some plan for him to get home, either on Furlough or by Discharge

it seems as our Surgeon does not try to do any thing toward getting him away.

Your Obedient Servt

Samuel Baker
