                              Kankakee City Ill. Aug 23 1864

Respected Sir.

                   I hope you will give prompt attention to the claims of the non veterans of the 20th Reg Ill Infantry.  I have taken the liberty of addressing you at the request of the members of Co "G" residing in the County of Kankakee.  There are thirteen of us in all. enrolled 24th April 1861. mustered into U S service July 13th 1861 at Joliet.  discharged at Chattanooga on the 14th day of July A D 1864 and, in lieu of mileage or allowance we received $25-
                The claim. is for 1 month 2 day unpaid at $13.00 per month and clothing allowance.  Beleiving that as this is justly our due.  We AsK you Respectfully to inform us of the most speedy way to receive the little due to us_ from the Gov. as it is unpaid.  we have claims upon you and hope that you will not allow the Government to wrong us out of this.
                 Hoping that you will attend to this and oblige, the non veterans of Co G 20th Ill Inf I Subscribe myself Your friend and well wisher  To his Excellency  With great Respect Yours Truly
