dear friend the Second time I write to you the first received your answer for which I thank you kindly. now Mr Dubois I know you are acquainted with my politics and has been for 24 years I have for the last 36 years laboured for that party I am now broke Clear down and is very hard run, now dear sir if you will please give this letter to our Hon. governor yates with your influence in my behalf for him to give me some office in the power of his gift it will now be more than thankfully received in my old age

Such an office as will Support myself and family I have not been in this County only a Short time not formed much acquaintance with the politicians Govenor yates if you will please grant the foregoing request you will confer a great favor on A friend of your political party of long standing I close by Subscribing myself your friend please write send your address to Effingham Effingham County Ill to Rickerson Arnold and oblige your frien R Arnold
