with David A. Lenhart 12/20/64

On or about the 24 day of April 1864 I Saw D. A. Lenheart, a Private in Co 103'd Rgt Ill. Vol. and found him laboring under "Pneumonia Biliosa" of most agravated form, and he showed me a furlough given him on account of Sickness, as authority for his abscence from his regiment. He was dangerously ill for about 17 days, when he began to convalesce, but so slowly that I was compelled to send a certificate for extending his Furlough, and about the

time of expiration of the extension I advised him to report at quincy Hospital to be examined with a view to a discharge.

Mr. Lanheart has had three brothers examined two of whom have lost their lives in their countrys defence. The third is now under My care, wounded at Kenesaw Neb. and he himself in the condition An examining Surgeon of the U. S. Inry. may find him. His wife is in delicate health, his Father and Mother living on the Same farm with him, aged; and the

former a cripple, So that if any case could be found in which a Soldier should be discharged, Mr Lenhearts case is Such, unless he has very greatly improved in health since I Saw him.............R R W (Dowell?) M. D.
