Hon Richard Yates

Dear Sir

While in New Orleans I recieved your letter in reply to mine... concerning the formation of a company under the last Call for 500000 men and of my promotion in said company.

I am very thankful for your assurance of meeting with success and shall be very happy to return and proceed with the business of enlisting men to assist in carrying on this war for the restoration of the Union.

I will, if you require it, bring all necessary recommendations from my Company and Regimental Officers and present them to you

I shall await anxiously the order to return and will proceed promptly to business as soon as all the arrangements may be completed.

Fort Morgan surrendered the 23 inst and is now occupied by our forces.

I am Sir

Yours Respectfully

James M. Bartholow
