Governer Yates:

Dear Sir;

I served one year during the Mexican War and served two years in this war and reenlisted; I was at the seige of Vicksburg and at the battles of Lookout Mountain and Mission Ridge.

Last February (soon after I had reenlisted) I became paralized in the left leg, arm and side, which has rendered me unfit for any kind of duty until this time.

They are now talking of transferring me to the Veteran Reserve Corps which I wish to prevent if possible.

If you will be kind enough to assist me, and to help me to return to my family, you will be conferring a great favor upon me.

I am a private of Co. "E" 63d Regt. Ill. V.I. and will be 50 years old the 10th of next Oct.

Yours Respectfully

Thomas Pickett
