Alton Sept 10. 1864

O M Hatch

Springfield

Dear Sir

I wish you would see the Governor and tell him that unless A F Rodgers is commissioned Col. of the regiment being raised here, as Genl Rosecrans has recommended, that the union party in this county has gone to hell.

i am astonished that the Govr. should allow himself to be influenced in the heart by a miserable set of hounds down here; whose assurance is only equaled by their ignorance. I know what I write, this thing must be done or we are gone.

Yours Truly

H. S. Baker
