To His Excellency

                         R Yates
To my surprise I find the Democracy of this place engaged in employing Mechanics of the various branches in service of Government for 6 months a 75 $ per month under forfeiture of pay an failure to Serve time of contract;_ They have to my knowledge sent out about 25 voters from this Co all of them good & loyal citizens true friends to the adms, while they refuse to employ any one from their own ranks At least none are a going. Thus saving to their party all their votes I look upon their action as solely with view to carry our county. I wish to See action to not only meet them, but to Stop them in this indirect mode of importation. I greatley fear the loss of our county. To carry it we must Spare no pains to meet the Rebels. They are full in the field working night & day.
I rely much on you The power in our hands may we not hope success
They have men here claiming to be acting under authority of Government..... R
                                             Resp Yours...................Wm H Randolph

Randolph. Wm H.

Macomb, Sept 12. 1864

Says the Democrats there (under?) pretended authority --from Govmt. are employing mechanics for the Govt service. and they Employ only Union men & not Democrats. So that the county will be carried by their party.
