Dr Sir,

        In behalf of the Committee on "Invitation, Reception and Entertainment", of the "Union Club" of this City, I beg leave to tender you a most earnest and cordial invitation to visit our City and address our people at your earliest convenience. Ill desire to have at least one general Meeting Each week until the Election and I trust you will find it agreeable and practicable to accept this invitation and indicate the time most convenient for yourself.
   Our people are very anxious to have you speak at Alton and I feel that great good will be the result. ~ The Committee most cordially tenders you the hospitality of their house and the city and will meet you on your arrival, if notified of the train route etc.
