I have the honor to Acknowledge the receipt of your Communication of the past informing Me of your having written to the Secretary of War for Permit to appear before Examining Committee for the Position of Chaplain of Colored Troops, for which please Accept My Most Sincere gratitude & thanks, And allow Me to remark that should I be fortunate enough to obtain the appointment I shall endeavor, with god's
help, to Make My future record such that you will Not regret the Step you have So Kindly taken in My behalf.
