Dear Sir
It is of the most importance that i now sit down to pen a few lines to ask mercy from you as a favor. i belong to the 64th Ills Vol. inf. i have been out for some time now. and i got a letter from my father who is very sick and wanted me to get a furlough if i could. i left him all alone last fall and enlisted in the 64 Ills. i am the 5th of our family in the army. so i thought i would ask you to intercede for me so as i could get a furlough and go to see him so as to cheer him in his old days. i ask it for his sake no more at present.
I remain your Humble Servant
