Alow me to adress a few lines to you I Seek A Position in the 29th US Collored Regt or formerly Col (Bron?) Regt wich was mostly Raised in your State I Belive I am Desirous of a Position as Captain in this Regt and Have Letters of Recomendations from Gov Lewis of our State to the Preasident and Allso one frome the Hon J R Doolittle United States Senator from our State and as the Regt [Beaing?] Mostly Raised in your State I thought that a letter from you to the Board of Examination would Probley healp me in geating the Position I seek I can Bring testimonials from the Best Citizens of our City and State where I have Resided for the past fifteen years in Regard to my Caracter as a Citizen Hopeing to Heare from You Govenor at Your Earliest Convenance I Remain
