Govenor Yates Dear Sir
I wish to obtain some information from you if you are able to favor me with my request. My Husband Volunteered in CO, D, 84th Regt Ills Volo rft(?). Volunteered the 19th of July/62 and died Nov 22nd/62. I employed C F Wheat of Marcomb Ills in December/ 62 to collect my Bounty Back Pay and Pension for me. The told me he had obtained sufficient proof and went on and collected my Bounty & Back Pay which I received th 11th of Jany/64. In Sept./64 I received a letter from him stating that he could not obtain my pension without further

proof and it appears to me that the proof required to collect the bounty & Back pay would be suffiecent to collect thee pension. He said the proof yet required was proof form some person having a personal knowledge fo the fact, stating When, Where, and under what circumstances the disease contracted that casued his death. I wish to know if he has ever collected my pension or not & if he has not what is the cause of it being detained so long If there is any chance to get my little amount & should be vey glad to receive it for if there is any woman that needs it, it is my self. I have my self and five little Helpless children to support and not one dollar's worth of any thing in the world to go upon but what little I canearn by my daily labor.

and I think it is a slim looking chance, but as for my part I will try.
Yours with the greatest respects Mrs Mary A Brooks
