Tunnel Hill Ga Oct. 25th 1864
To His excellency
Gov. Yates. of Ills.
Knowing you to be a friend to the soldier, and willing at all times to assist them, I am emboldened to make the following request. I will first state the circumstances of the case so it may be more easily understood. I enlisted in the 115th Regt. Ills. at the call of yourself in 1862 and left my mother very poorly provided for, She was dependent upon me for support. She will suffer this winter very greatly indeede unless She is relieved in some way. The man with whom She has been living has told her to leave, She has no place to go for Shelter. Will you have the kindness to have a place provided for her untill my term
of service shall have expired which will be in about 10 months. You can thus place me under greate obligations to you and perform an act which your benevolent spirit will be deservidly proud of. I know you will aleviate her sufferings because it is the request of an Illinois Soldier who has shed his blood in the cause of human liberty and in defense of American Union She lives about 5 miles west of Taylorsville Christian Co Ills. Her name is Rebecca Young I await your pleasure, and am
Very Respectfuly
Your Obt. Servt.
