Jefferson Barracks St Louis Mo October 27th Governer of Illinois Dear Sir I take the oppertunity of writing to you for the perpose of letting you know my situations. I am a private of Co C 117th Ills inft. I have bin in the horsepital every since the 22 of July. I was wounded at the Battle of Tupilo Missisippi on the 14th day of July and my wound is in the left leg or left ancle it is still running and also I have my right thum shot of close up to my hand so I am not a


bit of use to the government. I have a wife at home and she has a very hard time to get a long I have not bin paid of since the 30 of april the doctor will not give me my discharg if there is know chance of me geting my discharg I want to be transferd to Camp Buttler then I will be close to home and will be in my state I have served 2 years and 2 monnth in my last inlistment. I surved 3 monnth in the 5 Cansas at the first of the war if you will be so kind as to give me some information I will ever be thankful to you I am most ever your humble servent. John H.
