Hon O M Hatch

Dr Sir

I have this day written to Gov Yates urging the appointment of Wm R. Lockwood Esq of this City as Colonel of one of the Illinois Regiments.

He is eminently qualified for the place. His whole heart is in the war. He will do credit to the Service and his appointment will be in the highest degree acceptable to the friends of the Union and of the State Administration in this part of the Country.

For these reasons and as I personal favor to me I take the liberty to ask that you will lend your influence towards his appointment.

I will always gratefully remember the favor

Yours truly

John T. Morton
