Hon Richd. Yates Governor &c

My Dear Sir;-My Democratic friend, J. D. Vangham Esq., of this city, wants a place in the staff of one of our new Illinois regiments. He is a Kentuckian, a Democrat, but a loyal man and a clever fellow. Will you allow me to entreat you to do for him all you can to forward his wishes. I take great pleasure in assuring you that his duties,

if he should get an appointment would be faithfully and honorably discharged. I have great faith in his integrity and fitness; and I am particularly desirous that as a leading man of the Democracy in this city, he should be remembered.

Yours Very Truly C. H. Ray
