President. Evansville, Ind.,

24 June 1862.

Dear Dubois.

I cannot help congratulating on the defeat of the Constitution by the vote as far as taken. A word now of caution. Your papers say the vote yet to be taken in the [am?] will increase the majority. Dont be deceived and always remember that Sam Buck with his [croneyes?] will yet endeavour to hatch up some scheme to defeat you. The votes of the soldiers can be returned against unless the matter is well looked after. I know from what I hear here that some outrage will yet be attempted & reliance is placed upon Buck to do the work

Yours in haste
