Fuller Adjt Genl State of Ill directing him to commission me Major of the Veteran Battallion of the 14th and 15th Ill Infty, I have been acting in that capacity, as [commandant?] of The 1st Battn 2nd Brig, Provisional Division, Army Tenn and not have as yet received my commission, I feel placed in a somewhat delicate position; having been ordered to rejoin my command with Genl Sherman, it will be a source of mortification to me, if my commission as Maj is not to be issued May I not then, Governor, receive a favorable reply from you?
