To Hon Richard Yates

Dear Sir

I addressed you a letter some two weeks since in which I referred you to a letter to Gov Oglesby which I wrote and which the friends of the cause had printed in pamphlet form I have received no reply but I am confident my opinions therein expressed meet your approval The delegation as well as myself rejoice at your election and it is quite possible I may be here when you arrive I think the senators and at least one of the representatives Bongano will be admitted I am recommended by the entire delegation of the office of the Surveyor of the Port of New Orleans They will personally sign my appointment and I think there can be little doubt of my success I desire however a letter from you a (----) personal letter to Mr Lincoln stating of what service I have been to the cause during the late campaign in Illinois I desire this not so much to influence Mr Lincoln or Mr [name?] in making the appointment as to put myself properly before Mr Lincoln I presented to him a letter from Hon L J [name?] but I do desire nothing of that kind now as our representatives her from Louisiana and some of them at least old personal intimate friends of mine

Please send the letter to me and I will present it with other papers when I have the matter before the President I should like to have it as soon as possible address me at Washington D C

With the highest regard I am Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant A T Stone

(----) Stone A T Washington Jan 27/65

I think the two Senators and one Representative from La will be admitted.

He is a candidate from appointment as Surveyor of the Port of N Orleans and wants a letter to the Pres'd recommending him
