Honored Sir

We the undersigned having been sent from our commands for reason of disability received on the summer campaign not being able to perform any duty and lay here for the last thirty days with our shelter tents as our only resort as quarters and about one fourth rations many of us suffering from old wounds as honest soldiers of Illinois we ask as a favor of you to assist us in getting to our own state where we will have some chance to get well as laying here on the ground is increasing our dability rather than improving our health
