Dear Govinor

Your very kind letter of the 20th inst has just been reach -- and for which I am more than obliged to you

The reason that I did not make aplication to my Member in congress is that He is a Coperhead --(S. S. Marshall as the members always have been from this region -- hence I could never expect acomodations from that quarter of any kind. hope and expect that it will be

diferant some day not vary far in the future -- but untill that Good Time comes I am entirley dependant upon you yet I hope I shal not be under

the [mediocraty?] of boring you vary oftin or long for the reasons above stated.

We are making big arrangements for a Grand Celabration of the fourth of July next and a barbucu for our returned Souldiers as you will perhaps Recolect the 111th Col Martin is nearly all from this county and we represent many others also 15 return from this regeon by the fourth and we are geting up a Celabration on a Grand Scale and we wish to turn it to a political Acount and will try and get other ajacent counties to join us in the celabration and as the people of this regeon was disapointed in geting to hear you last fall they are exceedingly anctious to have you come

and address them on that ocasion and I know that no other man could elicit the attention and respect of the Souldier Troops as your self. and I do hope that you will make it a point to be with us at that time

You have but litle [illegible] of the effect that a speech from you would have at that time hence I do hope you will write me on the receipt of this saying that you will be with us on the fourth We will get large posters struck at once and circulate them all through Southern Illinois and such a crowd as we would have never was seen before in Eqypt

Enclosed I send you the minutes of a meeting of the [Lincolns?] Souldiers and Sosiety

that you may see that they are in earnest in this matter

Hoping that I shal hear a favorable response to the above

I have the honor to be your friend
