Hon. Richard Yates

Dr. Sir

Yours of the [illegible] was not received and contents known till quite recently. Judge Thompson and myself were away from home at the time and for some time after it was received. Your first letter did not reach the Judge in which you Stated you had procured a place for me in the [Trea?] Depart; which I regret very much. I am aware that there are messenging applicants for placing. If you could procure a place for me, if no better than mail agent or mepsenger, I should feel myself under very many obligations to you and Should use every effort to reciporocate the favor. The Judge----

handed your letter to me and requested me to write you

Most Respectfully Yourz
