Dear Governor.

I have sent the draft to Baker & Phillips and a letter explaining the account and also the original of the enclosed letter to Dubois - all in one package by Express to "Baker & Phillips or cllr [I or J ?] D Roper Cashier Illinois Journal Office Springfield" requesting them to deliver the letter to Uncle Jesse - I send the letters by Express, if possible to guard against loss or accident. I feel deeply obligated to you for the kind and unselfish interest you have taken in my personal interest in this matter and shall continue with my whole energy and heart to try to repay you for past friendship, and to conserve the advancement of your highest temporal wishes - in which it is the nation now - that has your cause in keeping

Your devoted and faithful friend

John S. Loomis
