These names embrace the most active of our party politically in our county. A few men, as you know, in every county generally manage things as they wish. There has been some stir in the 7th district with regard to the attempted removal of Mr. Rives of Paris the present assessor. He and his deputies give good satisfaction in the Northern portion of the district and his removal would be injudicious at this time. I understand our member Mr. Bromwell has been laboring for his removal, but very injudiciously for himself, as Mr. Rives with his deputies wields no inconsiderable political influence in the district. I have no interest in the matter only to keep peace in the family, and trust if you are solicited to do something in the matter, that you will agree with me that it will be better to let Mr. Rives stay where he is. With sentiments of high regard I remain Your Obt. Servant Chas H. Wood
