Decatur Ill August 16th 1865 Gov Richard Yates "U.S.S." Sir Some few weeks ago I received from his Excelency R.J. Ogles Governor. A Recummendation to the Post Master General for a position as a clerk or a messinger in the Post office Dept. Now Sir Knowing as I doe Your influence at Washington I deem it prudent in order to Secure my appointment to have Your Signature. Now Sir as You have Signed the Commission I hope Sir You Will have the kindness to endorse the [enclose] . I Would come down but Your are no doubt annoyed enough now.
