To His Excel.

Gov. Yates,

of Illinois,

Dear Sir:

I am very anxious that Capt. Fletcher H. Chapman, commanding the Artillery Company attached to Col. Palmer's 14 Reg. of Illinois Volunteers should have a full company of Light Artillery. He has men well drilled for the purpose, and all that is necessary, is that he should have two or four guns more, with the necessary equipment. Will you have the kindness, if in your power, to have these guns furnished, as it will add

very much to the efficiency of the Regiment and of my Division

I have the honor to be

Very Respectfully,

Your mo. ob. servant

D. Hunter,

Major General
