Sir

Some weeks since I wrote your Excellency requesting the appointment of my brother Abner W. Hollister as Major in some of the new Regts. to be formed in this state.

Since then he has been named as 1st Lieut. of Co "E" 1st Artillery & has been acting as such at Cape Girardeau Mo. I learn to day that Capt C. C. Campbell of that Co. has recd the appointment of Col. of the 1st Regt of Artillery which leaves the Captaincy of Co "E" vacant. I trust your Excellency will allow

me to ask the appointment of my brother to the vacancy, as he is now the next in rank to Capt. Campbell.

I should esteem it a great favor to him, as well as myself, and his appointment I think would be satisfactory to his command
