I have been informed that James Boston Corporal Co "F" 53rd Ills. Infy has been confined in your hospital for some time and although upon examination found to be unfit for further service, can not get his discharge papers. I would respectfully request you to assist Mr. Boston to get his discharge without unnecessary delay.

Sir. The within named soldier James Boston was sent to Small Pox Hospital Feb. 18th 1863. Since, we have not heard from him. You can get information by addressing Surg. Smith. Duncan Island near St. Louis Mo.
