Sir allow me to ask of you to do what you can to retain Gnl Hooker in command there is a great effort being made to deprecate him and place someone in his place Let me say that this is being done for no good I think there is just as good men but let me tell you that the [democracy?] among the Butternut stock are determined to keep changing commanders so that no head will be made to the army well may you know that if the present administration gets the right man at the head of the army it will tell but if constantly changing there will be no head and soon there will be no army for gods sake make no more changes on the [Rope?] in [Porters?] better have a granny and let him be that to have 20 Solomons and change commanders any time there is a fight I wish a commission to raise what men I can let me have a ten in ten hundred and let me have a roving command reporting to every Post commander I may come near to Drawing [Pay?] or get owes [more?] Pay as cavelry financing his own horse can I get it & how shall I apply Respectfully yours JM.
