It is understood between Col Prettyman and myself that I shall have the position of Lieut Col. in his Regt. If this is satisfactory to you, and I presume it is from your promise to me, will you do me the favor to forward some memorandum of authority under which I can act and take command of the Regt. as it goes into camp.
