Gov. Yates. I am desirous of knowing your wishes & [want?] your advise before I proceed further in the proposed enterprise --Allow me to ask -- Do I possess & does my enterprise possess the confidence & countenences of yourself & Govt. Would you in consideration of the lateness of the session and other circumstances best known to yourself, advise to move promptly forward or drop the project -- If to move forward is your wish - I must have your authority & assistance to enable me to get efficiently into shape to be of service & until the Federal Govt. can be reached, I need your authority to subsist --and passes over the roads for myself officers and men.
