Gov Richd Yates

Springfield Ills

Dear Sir

We are preparing for a grand union rally in this city on the evening of the 25th (next Monday) which it is very important should be a success - particularly as the Fremont men have recently had an imposing demonstration here. In our movement we want assistance from Illinois, expect

a good many of our neighbors over the river to be with us, and would be particularly gratified if we could have the Governor of Illinois to address the people of the two states. I am directed by our committee of arrangements to invite you to be with us on the 25th with that view. Will you be kind enough to answer by telegraph.

Respectfully &c John F. Hume

Chairn Com. Arrangements.
