Hon Rich Yates

Dear Friend

Your kind note rec and in reply will say while things look pretty dark in this Senatorial district yet by the grace of God and keeping our powder dry (that is what we have got) we intend to carry this thing clean & smooth for Rep & Senator.

My God Gov we seemed about to be bound hand & foot & delivered over body & soul to the enemy but thank God for Sherman's military &c and now if we can keep up this thing we are all right. In LaSalle Co Mc nomination fell like a wet blanket upon the democracy. They are strugling against to get up enrollment but it is imposible here.

How do things look with you & in Southern Ill & what is your judgt as to results & whether God is for or against us. Obliged for favors.

Ever yours

W. Bushnell
