Col Clark E Carr

Dear Sir I return your enclosed. The Governor sent me a similar reply & I am satisfied he will do what is right in the matter. Although I should like to see Ed promoted I based my recommendation to the Governor upon the assumption that no injustice should be done to others.

If the attainment of the Governors present ambition depended upon my vote, his desire would not long remain ungratified - But I fear the result in this state is at best doubtful From another Copperhead assuredly Good Lord deliver us - Yours

J M Holyoke
