Hon. Richard Yates

Dear Sir -

I should like very much to attend the opening of the coming session of our legislature & note the contrast between it & the one you "vetoed", but my business arrangements are such that it will be impossible.

Allow me however to express the hope that your unswerving devotion to the Union & especially to the interests of Illinois soldiers will find its reward in the just appreciation which that legislature should at once attest, by giving you a place next in honor to our worthy Illinois President in the council of the Nation.

Yours very truly

John V. Farwell
