Oregon Ogle Co Ills.

January 2' 1865

Gov. Yates

I feel a good deal of interest in your behalf on account of the election of U. S. Senator I hope & trust you may succeed, our member Mr. Pinkney if he represents Ogle County will support you. I am satisfied that four fifths of the people of Ogle are in your favor I heard last Saturday a man presented a petition for names recommending Washburn for that office a number of veteran Soldiers were present they hooted at the idea. That is the feeling of our County Mr. Cullum member of Congress elect. from your district will have a good deal of influence with our member I do not know how he stands but I trust he is for you. Pinkney will vote for you unless they can make him believe some stories that have been circulated against you I understand he made that assertion if Cullum is all right you had better post him about

over

Pinkney he can do more with him than any other man.

I remain Yours truly

James V. Gale

P. S. You had better use this rather confidentially I want to post you all I can
