Gov. Yates

Thank God the People have triumphed & the Politicians are once more beaten. I am happy to congratulate you on the result of the contest, because the People of this county, of the State, and of the Nation will be not only satisfied but highly pleased; I was both chagrined & astonished at Stacy's vote in Caucus, but not more so than seventenths of the voters of Bureau. I have feared you might think I was very hasty in pledgeing him as I did, but I had the best of reasons, (his own talk) at the time for so doing Very hastily

but truly yrs.
