Hon Richard Yates

My [dear?] Sir

No man in the United States feels more gratification than I do at your election, and the moreso as by it, Hon. E. B. Washburn was defeated. I congratulate the state of Illinois upon the fact that her representatives have fully met the wishes of the people. You are the "right man in the right place" Before you leave Springfield for Washington use your influence to have the infamous "[Huck?]-laws" repealed and while in the U.S. Senate always remember the God given principles of eternal justice, and your future record, as your former has, will cast a hallo of glory around the

name of Richard Yates of Illinois You have always had my best wishes because you were a true Patriot. May God keep you always in the right

I have the honor tobe

Respectfully

Your Obt Svt
