State of Kansas.

Office of Attorney General.

Topeka, Nov. 26 1861

Hon. Richd Yates. U. S. S.

Jacksonville. Ill.

Dear Sir:

At the request of Mr Sidney Clarke, our honored member of Congress, I have conferred with the State Agent of our Agricultural College Lands, as also, with the General Manager of the National Land Company, in regard to the Land Agency of your brother, Abner Yates Esqr of Jacksonville.

Professor Goodiron, State Agent, and Mr Webb of the Nat. Land Co. will communicate with your brother at once and will, I doubt not, conclude with him arrangements of the kind he seeks. Meanwhile,

I will soon confer with other parties having large tracts of valuable and desirable lands to dispose of, and shall doubtless succeed in placing him in communication with them directly. I presume Mr Clarke has, before this, informed you that his sudden departure for Washington prevented him from giving his personal attention to these matters which will explain my connection with them.

Permit me to say that I shall be proud to serve "Dick Yates of Illinois" in my humble way, not only because my friend Clarke is his friend but because every loyal heart in the Nation owes him perpetual gratitude. Very Respectfully

Your Obt Servant

Geo. H. Hoyt.

Geo. H. Hoyt
