Description

Governor Charles S. Deneen stands with several men between a set of railraod cars and a building at the Benton Mine Rescue Station. Illinois Mine Rescue began when Bill No. 42 was approved in the Illinois Senate on March 4, 1910. The law was written to establish and maintain mine fire fighting and mine rescue stations in coal fields across the state. The Benton Mine-Rescue Car can also be seen in this photograph.
