Gov Yates As a portion of our Illinois troops are being ordered to Richmond I am desirous of an appointment as temporary assistant surgeon to accompany them. I should prefer going with the Western Sharp Shooters (or the 14th Missori as they are numbered although they are allmost all Ills Troops) the 30th Ills, the 12th Ills or the 10th Ills as I have friends in all the above named regiments that are anxious to have me with them as a surgeon and I am exceedingly anxious to be with them If my services are needed and you think I am the man for the place you will please send me orders with the necessary passes and papers or if you think it best to send me some place else I am ready to go

When I returned from Corinth you were absent and I found there had been no provisions made for paying the temporary Surgeons under your appointment. Your Secretary Judge Moses promised to inquire into the subject Please let me know as soon as you are informed as to the manner of payment Dr. Johnston is in my office and sends his compliments as a personal friend

Yours respectfully

D. O. McCord, M. D.
