To his Excellency Gov Yates

Dear Sir

Mr William Grant a lawyer at Morris raised a Company of three months men at the time the 3 months volunteers were called out but was too late his company could not be accepted. he now desires to be appointed Major and the People of that County earnestly desire it. They have begun to raise a Co. have 25 or 30 men and will rapidly fill it up Mr Grant is just the right sort of a man, liberally Educated, Energetic, and reliable, has the Confidence of the Community If it be possible I trust that


Mr Grant may receive the appointment he seeks I assure you that he will do Credit to the office and is such a man as the service needs
