Hon O.M. Hatch
Dear Sir
I write you for the purpose of asking your influence in a little matter. I have made application for the appointment of Major. of the new Regt which is to be raised in this district.
I have also sent to Gov Yates a letter of recommendation signed by H. P. H. Bromwell. The Sheriff & clerk of the court also several of the most prominent men in the county. requesting my appointment.
Now if you will be so good as to throw your influence for me. You will place me under
obligation which I assure you will be reciprocated the first opportunity that presents.

J. D. Ellington is an active energetic young man. he is a business man, but I think from what I know of him that he would make a good Military man, and if it can be done, I hope he may be appointed major as he desires.
