To his Excellency Richard Yates Governor of the State of Illinois

We the undersigned, Citizens of Saint Clair County, your personal friends, cordially recommend to your honorable and favorable notice the bearer Mr. E. J. Scott who is also a citizen of this County. Mr Scott desires to be in some way useful to our Country and our State, and not having acquaintance in Springfield he would be grateful for the protection and patronage of your Excellency. Your Excellency can with security rely upon Mr E. J. Scott as an honorable, true and worthy Patriot; as such we know him and recommend him to all. Cheering on your Excellency in the determined and thorough course so far pursued by you, we offer both our thanks and our congratulations for your late noble Letter and Address; and hoping you may long continue, to be of service, to our Country, we subscribe ourselves, with a wish for your entire success, your very cordial friends and fellow citizens
