Hon. Edward Stanton Secy of War Washington

Sir:

I had the pleasure the past week of witnessing a trial of the "Union Repeating Gun" now in use in the "Army of the Potomac". There is a strong desire [illegible] that the Illinois Regiments now organizing should be supplied with them. I therefore respectfully ask that two of these guns be furnished to each of the Regiments now forming in this State. I believe they will add greatly to the efficiency of our troops. I am sir, Your obedient servant, Governor of Illinois
