Honorable Richard Yates Dear sir

Having a desire to enlist in th naval service on the Atlantic coast I thought I would enquire of you. whether you could send myself and several others there if we would file our affidavits (or otherwise) that we will enlist in the service after we get there also how long time can we have to thresh and market our wheat and settle our other business beging you to excuse me for the liberty I have taken

I remain yours respectfully
