Honorable sir

I excuse my presumption in addressing you, on the plea that I wish to do something towards aiding the government in this struggle, and if there is any duty you think I am capable of performing I would be very much obliged to you, to assist me to obtain it.

You know me to be the son of one of your best friends. I am not able to do much hard work, on account of losing my right arm. But I can do a little writing, though not very much. You see my hand write before you. Perhaps in your knolledge, there is some place that I could fill. Awaiting an answer I remain

Your humble servant

Owen G Long son of Owen M Long
